Energy markets expert Dr. Anas Alhajji revealed the reason behind Saudi Arabia's move towards nuclear energy despite its massive oil and gas reserves.

Alhajji explained, in an interview with Al Arabiya, that the first reason is that any country, especially G20 nations, requires diversification of energy sources as it is a requirement for national security and energy security.

He noted that electricity consumption in the Kingdom, Vision 2030, and the visions that will follow all lead to a very significant increase in electricity in the future. Without nuclear energy and renewable energy, this means consuming more oil and gas, thus diverting oil from exports to domestic consumption, reducing oil revenues.

He added: "But with the use of nuclear energy and renewable energy, oil is shifted to exports, increasing them without investment in production."
