Al Jazeera - SPA:
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia presented its third Voluntary National Review Report during the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development 2026, organized by the United Nations in New York, reaffirming its commitment to accelerating progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and advancing the targets of Saudi Vision 2030.
His Excellency Minister of Economy and Planning, Mr. Faisal bin Fadel Al-Ibrahim, highlighted in his speech the key points of the report, which comprehensively monitors the progress the Kingdom has made in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, along with lessons learned and future priorities.
The report is an extension of the two previous voluntary national reviews submitted by the Kingdom in 2018 and 2023, and includes the results of extensive participatory efforts involving over 140 entities from the public and private sectors, academic institutions, the non-profit sector, and the United Nations system.
His Excellency said: "The Kingdom's third voluntary national review embodies the contribution of Saudi Vision 2030 in bringing about a qualitative shift in the national development journey, which has been translated into tangible achievements supporting the realization of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This review reflects the progress the Kingdom has made since its previous national review in 2023, the experiences and lessons learned, and what is still under implementation. It is a journey that began with an objective and honest assessment of reality, followed by a continuous path of reform and ambition, and today enters a new phase based on setting priorities, enhancing implementation efficiency, and maximizing impact."
The report identifies the Kingdom's priorities for the next phase of implementation, including enhancing prevention of non-communicable diseases, improving groundwater sustainability, accelerating the deployment of renewable energy projects, expanding financial inclusion, enhancing biosecurity and national vaccine capabilities, and continuing to develop data to support more accurate and targeted public policymaking.
The report also reflects the approach adopted by Saudi Vision 2030 in aligning the global Sustainable Development Goals with a national implementation model, through the National Sustainable Development Plan, which organizes over 90 development priorities into nine integrated tasks focusing on achieving measurable results for people, the economy, and the environment. It also reviews the tangible progress made under these tasks, including enhancing water security, expanding renewable energy, improving access to healthcare services, increasing women's participation in economic activity, developing digital government, supporting urban prosperity, promoting industrial development, and enabling more inclusive economic growth.
