The business community is accustomed to evaluating the successful by their ranking on wealth lists or the size of their financial assets. But Saleh Sairy, who left us after 98 years of giving and success, left a unique and important legacy: charitable work and hidden benevolence.

Uncle Saleh, as his loved ones liked to call him, belonged to the first generation of self-made entrepreneurs who carved in rock from a young age, staying up late in effort and diligence, working and toiling, facing life's ups and downs, its sweetness and bitterness, successes and failures.

What was known about the deceased was that he was a strict leadership figure with a decisive administrative style and a committed practical approach, thus building a reputation as a serious and respected man. But there was another side to his personality, which he was keen to hide: engaging in charity and benevolence of all sizes, out of his desire to help the needy, purify his wealth, relieve distress, and remove hardships from the needy as much as he could.

At his large funeral, delegations of mourners from different generations mingled; men wept for him with anguish whom most attendees did not know, only to find that each had a story or a situation to tell. The deceased used to help them in the darkest and most difficult circumstances secretly, without humiliation or favor.

Saleh Sairy left us, and the tongues of his loved ones pray for mercy, forgiveness, salvation from hellfire, and that paradise be his abode, with tears never ceasing to fall from eyes.

A rich life and a fragrant legacy left for his loved ones a reputation that is a source of pride and a role model for future generations. What the deceased accomplished he did not learn from world universities or business schools, but from the school of life that offers lesson after lesson.

May God have vast mercy on Uncle Saleh Sairy, grant him spacious paradise, and inspire his family and relatives with patience and solace. To God we belong and to Him we shall return.
