Sun's Perpendicular Alignment on the Holy Kaaba Tomorrow
The Holy Kaaba will witness tomorrow the phenomenon of the sun's perpendicular alignment, where its rays will be perpendicular to it at the moment of noon, at exactly 12:26:44 PM Makkah time. The head of the Jeddah Astronomical Society, engineer Majed Abu Zahra, stated that this phenomenon occurs twice a year when the sun reaches the latitude of Makkah at 90 degrees above the horizon, and it is considered one of the most accurate astronomical methods for verifying the direction of the qibla in areas where the sun is visible above the horizon, as the direction of the sun is directly the direction of the Kaaba, while the shadow of any vertical object points opposite to the qibla. He added that the benefit of the phenomenon is achieved by placing a straight object on a flat surface before the alignment time, then observing the direction of the sun or the shadow at the moment of alignment, noting that its importance is highlighted in areas far from Makkah, while it is used in nearby cities such as Jeddah to ensure the accuracy of the qibla direction. Abu Zahra emphasized that the sun's perpendicular alignment on the Kaaba is a natural astronomical phenomenon resulting from the alignment of the apparent position of the sun with the latitude of Makkah, and it represents one of the precise practical applications of astronomical calculations in determining the qibla direction.
