27 Turks, 1 Azerbaijani, and 4 Egyptians Injured in Collision Accident in South Sinai

32 people — 27 Turks, one Azerbaijani, and 4 Egyptians — were injured in a collision between a tourist bus and a truck in Egypt's South Sinai governorate.

According to local media, the accident occurred in the area of Ras Sidr, which is part of South Sinai governorate (eastern Egypt), after the bus departed from Sharm el-Sheikh to the Giza Pyramids area. The bus was among 22 buses that set off on the same day.

All the injured were transferred to Ras Sidr General Hospital for medical care. The condition of 4 injured was described as moderate to critical, while medical examinations confirmed that the health condition of the rest of the injured was stable, according to local media.

South Sinai governorate said in a statement on Wednesday that it directed rapid coordination between relevant authorities, dispatched ambulances, and transferred the injured to Ras Sidr Hospital, providing necessary medical care and monitoring their health condition. A report was also filed to determine the causes of the accident.

Egyptian local media quoted a medical source as saying that a delegation from the Turkish and Azerbaijani embassies arrived in South Sinai governorate to follow up on the health condition of the injured and check on their nationals receiving treatment in hospitals.

Rising Accident Fatalities

The accident comes at a time when Egypt is witnessing an increase in deaths and injuries from road accidents. Data published last month by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics showed that the number of road accident fatalities in the country, including car and train accidents, rose by 10.8 percent during the year 2025.

The data also showed that the number of road accident injuries reached 84,553 in 2025, compared to 76,362 in 2024, an increase of 10.7 percent.

Experts attribute road accidents in Egypt to the poor condition of some roads and vehicles and disregard for driving rules, while officials point to human error as the primary cause of accidents, despite the notable development of the road network in recent years.
