(CNN)-- Iranian media reported that the United States launched a missile strike on the outskirts of the Iranian city of Abadan, local time Sunday evening.

The city of Abadan is located in Khuzestan province, southwestern Iran, near the border with Iraq.

Khuzestan Deputy Governor Valiollah Hayati told Iranian state television that the attack resulted in no deaths or injuries. Iran's semi-official Fars News Agency also reported the strike, citing the Khuzestan provincial government.

CNN has reached out to the US Central Command (CENTCOM) for comment.

These reports come days after escalation between Washington and Tehran, as US forces carried out the eighth consecutive round of strikes against Iran from Saturday night into Sunday.

According to the US military, those strikes targeted facilities linked to Iranian air and coastal defenses, as well as missile and drone storage sites.
