(CNN)-- Authorities at Erbil International Airport in Iraq announced Tuesday the temporary suspension of flights to and from the airport due to 'security conditions.'

The Iraqi News Agency (INA) quoted Erbil International Airport Director Ahmed Hoshiyar as saying that 'flights to and from Erbil airport have been temporarily suspended due to a wave of attacks targeting the city of Erbil and its airspace.'

He added that 'flights will resume as soon as the security situation stabilizes and returns to normal.'

The conflict in the region escalated after the resumption of strikes between the United States and Iran, with Washington launching airstrikes over the past days against Iran, while Iran targets what it says are US interests and military bases in the region.

Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan announced they intercepted aerial attacks on Tuesday.
