Al-Budaiwi Condemns Iranian Aggression Against Two Emirati Oil Tankers
Jassem Mohamed Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), expressed his strongest condemnation and denunciation of the aggressive Iranian attack that targeted the oil tankers "Mombasa" and "Al-Bahia" belonging to the United Arab Emirates, resulting in the death of one crew member and injury of several others.
Al-Budaiwi affirmed that "this terrorist assault on the two Emirati oil tankers represents a blatant violation and a grave breach of the principles of international law and the rules of freedom of maritime navigation, and also constitutes a clear violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817," which stressed the need to protect international navigation and not to target commercial vessels or endanger sea lanes.
Al-Budaiwi emphasized that the GCC stands united with the United Arab Emirates and supports all measures taken to protect its security, sovereignty, and the safety of its facilities and vital interests.

He also called on the international community, particularly the Security Council, to assume its legal and ethical responsibilities and take a firm and deterrent stance against these serious and repeated Iranian attacks, to ensure their immediate cessation, hold the perpetrators accountable, secure freedom of international navigation, and maintain the security and stability of the region and the global economy.
The Secretary-General of the GCC also expressed his sincere condolences and sympathy to the victim's family and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
