The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Mohamed Al-Budaiwi, expressed his strongest condemnation and denunciation of the aggressive Iranian attack that targeted the UAE oil tankers Mombasa and Bahia, resulting in the death of one crew member and the injury of several others.

Al-Budaiwi affirmed that this terrorist attack on the two UAE oil tankers constitutes a flagrant violation and a grave breach of the principles of international law and the rules of freedom of maritime navigation, and is also a clear violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which stressed the need to protect international navigation and not to target commercial vessels or endanger sea lanes.

The Secretary-General stressed that the GCC stands united with the United Arab Emirates and supports all measures it takes to protect its security, sovereignty, the safety of its facilities, and its vital interests.

Al-Budaiwi also called on the international community, especially the Security Council, to assume its legal and moral responsibilities and take a firm and deterrent stance against these dangerous and repeated Iranian attacks, ensuring their immediate cessation, holding the perpetrators accountable, securing the freedom of international navigation, and maintaining the security and stability of the region and the global economy.

He also expressed his sincere condolences and sympathy to the family of the victim, and his wishes for a speedy recovery for the injured.
