The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Monday evening the execution of a new round of military strikes on Iran.

CENTCOM said in a statement on the American company X platform that US forces began at 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time (20:00 GMT) the implementation of a new round of strikes against Iran.

It added that the strikes aim to continue reducing Iranian military capabilities used in attacking commercial ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

No immediate comment was issued by Iranian authorities regarding the US announcement.

This comes about a month after Washington and Tehran signed, on June 18, 2026, a memorandum of understanding that included a ceasefire, and the start of negotiations mediated by Pakistan and Qatar to end the US and Israeli aggression on Iran, which began on February 28 of the same year.

However, US President Donald Trump announced on July 8 of this month the end of the ceasefire following renewed escalation, after Iran attacked three ships while they were transiting the Strait of Hormuz, to which Washington responded by launching attacks on sites inside Iran.

Washington demands ensuring freedom and security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, while Tehran asserts that it seeks to regulate the transit of ships through the strategic waterway, which has led to escalating tensions and concerns over global energy supplies.
