(CNN) -- The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said Monday that it has completed a new wave of strikes against Iran, targeting 'dozens of sites in multiple areas with precision munitions aimed at undermining Iran's ability to continue attacking international shipping transiting the Strait of Hormuz.'

In a statement, CENTCOM indicated that it targeted Iranian military air defense systems, coastal radar sites, and capabilities for missiles, drones, and small boats, using US fighter jets, warships, and attack drones.

The statement emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz is a 'vital maritime corridor for global trade, and Iran does not control it.'

Earlier Monday, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced launching a new wave of missile and drone attacks on US bases in the region.

For its part, Bahrain's Interior Ministry announced the activation of sirens in the country.

A statement from the ministry on platform X said: 'The siren has been activated. We ask citizens and residents to remain calm, go to the nearest safe place, and follow news through official channels.'
