Kuwait announced on Friday that its territory was subjected to an Iranian attack targeting a power and water desalination plant, warning that the continuation of these attacks undermines de-escalation efforts and threatens regional security and stability.

The Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry said in a statement that it 'condemns in the strongest terms the sinful Iranian aggression with missiles and drones that targeted the territory of the State of Kuwait on Friday, hitting a power and water desalination plant.'

It added that the targeting constitutes 'a flagrant violation of Kuwait's sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.'

It stressed that 'the continuation of this aggressive approach represents a highly dangerous escalation that threatens regional security and stability, a blatant challenge to international legitimacy, and undermines efforts aimed at de-escalation and reaching peaceful solutions.'

Earlier on Friday, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Electricity announced in a statement that a power and water desalination plant was attacked as a result of the Iranian aggression, causing damage to the plant's facilities and a fire, without specifying its location.

It added that it activated emergency plans and immediately dealt with the incident to mitigate its effects and maintain the stability of the electrical system.

It explained that it managed to control and extinguish the fire, while technical teams and emergency crews, in coordination with relevant authorities, began implementing necessary technical and precautionary measures to assess damages, secure the plant, and work to return the damaged units to service as quickly as possible.

It called on citizens and residents to cooperate with it during this exceptional phase by rationalizing electricity consumption, 'as this has a direct impact on supporting the stability of the national electrical system.'

It stressed that 'every contribution to rationalizing consumption enhances the electrical system's ability to overcome this phase and contributes to supporting repair and rehabilitation works of the damaged facilities as quickly as possible.'

The attack comes a day after the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense announced the interception of 32 hostile drones that entered the country's airspace, saying that Iranian attacks targeted a number of vital facilities, resulting in material damage with no casualties.

Kuwait is among the Arab countries that have been subjected to Iranian attacks in recent days, which Tehran said come in response to US strikes and targeting of Washington's interests and allies in the region.

This comes amid continued escalation between the United States and Iran, despite the two sides signing, on June 18 last, a memorandum of understanding that included a ceasefire and the start of negotiations mediated by Pakistan and Qatar to end the military confrontation that erupted following US and Israeli attacks on Iran on February 28 last.

However, US President Donald Trump announced on July 8 that the ceasefire had ended due to renewed escalation, after Iran, the day before, attacked three ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz, claiming they did not adhere to the designated shipping route, prompting Washington to launch attacks on sites inside Iran.
