(CNN)-- The Kuwaiti army announced on Monday that the country was subjected to attacks by Iranian drones, indicating that air defenses are confronting them.

In an official statement, it said: 'Kuwaiti air defenses are currently confronting hostile drone attacks, following the treacherous Iranian aggression. The General Staff of the Army notes that the sounds of explosions, if heard, are the result of air defense systems intercepting the hostile attacks.'

It continued: 'Everyone is requested to adhere to the security and safety instructions issued by the competent authorities.'

This came after the Bahraini Ministry of Interior announced the activation of sirens and called on citizens and residents to head to the nearest safe place, amid ongoing escalation between the United States and Iran.

The Bahrain Defense Force announced on Sunday that it intercepted and destroyed several Iranian aerial attacks, affirming that all its 'weapons and units are at the highest levels of readiness.'

The General Command of the Bahrain Defense Force said that the Kingdom's air defense systems 'confronted, intercepted, and destroyed a number of treacherous Iranian aerial attacks.'

Bahrain and Kuwait host US military installations and have been frequent targets of Iranian retaliatory attacks.
