(CNN)-- A video clip circulated on social media, claiming to show scenes of Iranian military convoys moving towards the border with Iraq.

The video shows a convoy of military equipment, including Russian-made T-72 tanks, loaded on vehicles crossing a bridge.

The video garnered over 300,000 views on various social media platforms, including X, Instagram, and Facebook, accompanied by a misleading description saying: "Some citizens in Iran have begun tracking an intense movement of tanks and military equipment massing towards the Iraqi and Kuwaiti borders."

CNN Arabic's verification revealed that it is old and unrelated to the recent escalation of military tensions between the United States and Iran.

By breaking the video into still frames and using reverse image search, we found an older version dated October 12, 2023.

At that time, the video was posted by Turkish journalist Mete Sohtaoğlu on X: "Iran - Iranian T-72 tanks moving in Khuzestan province, apparently heading towards the western border, #Iraq."

Although the context of the video is unclear, it remains old and does not date back to recent Iranian military movements.

Added to this is the fact that there is no shared land border between Kuwait and Iran, contrary to what the accompanying claim suggested.

The re-circulation of the video coincided in recent hours with Iran launching continuous strikes against Kuwait, among several Gulf states that have been hit by Iranian attacks.

The Kuwaiti government announced on Tuesday that Iran had targeted water desalination and power generation plants last night, marking the fourth consecutive day of attacks on the country's critical infrastructure.

Kuwait accused Iran of targeting its power generation and water desalination plants several times over the past week. Desalination provides about 90% of Kuwait's fresh water needs.

Later on Tuesday, the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry announced that it had summoned Iranian Ambassador Mohammad Toutounji and handed him a protest note over Iran's targeting of the Kuwaiti tanker "Kefan" while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz, which resulted in injuries to several crew members.
