The International Organization for Migration announced on Wednesday that 595 people have been displaced from the city of Kulbus and several of its villages in West Darfur state, western Sudan, between July 10 and 13, amid accusations that the Rapid Support Forces have committed killings, intimidation, and violations against civilians in the city.
In a statement, the organization said its field teams dedicated to tracking displacement estimated that 595 people had been displaced from Kulbus and its surroundings due to 'rising insecurity.'
It added that the displaced have moved to other areas within Kulbus locality, while some have crossed the border into neighboring Chad.
The International Organization for Migration confirmed that 'the situation remains very tense and volatile.'
It indicated that it will continue to closely monitor developments through field monitoring teams.
On Friday, the popular resistance committees of El Fasher accused the Rapid Support Forces of committing killings, intimidation, and violations against civilians in Kulbus.
The Rapid Support Forces entered the city on the same day after clashes with the Sudanese army and the joint force of allied armed movements, which had positioned themselves outside it.
On June 29, 2026, the Sudanese army and its allied joint forces announced control over Kulbus after battles with the Rapid Support Forces.
Kulbus is located in the far west of Sudan near the border with Chad, about 160 kilometers from the city of El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur state.
Since the outbreak of war in Sudan in April 2023 between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, wide areas of the Darfur region have witnessed repeated confrontations that have led to massive displacement waves and deteriorating humanitarian conditions.
The Rapid Support Forces control most of the five Darfur states, except parts of North Darfur state that remain under army control, while the army asserts its influence over the majority of other states in the country.
The ongoing war has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and the displacement of approximately 13 million people, according to UN and international estimates.
