America announces new strikes on Iran... and reports of explosions
(CNN)-- The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Monday in a social media post that it had launched strikes on Iran, while Iranian state media reported new explosions in the south of the country.
CENTCOM said in a post on the platform 'X': 'These strikes aim to further undermine the Iranian military capabilities used to attack commercial shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.'
Shortly after the Central Command announcement, Iranian state radio and television reported that an explosion was heard in the 'Bimani' area of the southern Hormozgan province, located on the Gulf of Oman near the Strait of Hormuz.
The state broadcaster also quoted unofficial sources as saying that several explosions were heard in the cities of Bandar Abbas and Qeshm, also located in Hormozgan province.
The official broadcaster did not immediately provide further details about the cause of the explosions, nor did it indicate any damage or casualties.
