US sends fighter jets to Middle East as Trump considers expanding war with Iran
(CNN)-- The United States intends to send additional F-16 and F-35 fighter jets from its bases in Europe to the Middle East region, along with additional aerial refueling aircraft, according to a US official.
These additional resources could expand US President Donald Trump's options as he considers how to proceed in the escalating conflict.
Last week, Trump received a briefing in the operations room on options for escalating the war.
The US President studied the possibility of seizing Kharg Island, a major Iranian export hub, or bombing Iranian nuclear facilities at Mount Pikaks.
However, Trump has not completely ruled out resorting to a diplomatic solution, and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated overnight that the door to returning to the negotiating table remains open.
