The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that the US military has completed the ninth consecutive round of strikes against Iran.

CENTCOM said in a statement that the US military targeted Iranian coastal surveillance and military air defense facilities.

The statement added that the strikes targeted Iranian military command centers, air defense sites, coastal surveillance, naval capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, and communications networks.

US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that the latest military strikes against Iran are being carried out in honor of US soldiers killed in recent days.

Trump told reporters upon his return to Washington after attending the World Cup final: 'We hit them very hard again tonight, and we did that in honor of the great patriots, probably three, they are probably three,' indicating that those soldiers were killed so that 'Iran cannot possess a nuclear weapon.'

Washington considers focusing its strikes on Iranian islands near Hormuz

The Washington Post quoted a US official as saying that the United States is planning a wider war against Iran.

The newspaper reported, citing the official, that the United States is on the brink of returning to full-scale war with Iran after the killing of a number of its soldiers.

According to the official, whom the Washington Post described as familiar with the internal discussions of the US administration, the Pentagon is increasing the number of military aircraft in the Middle East.

It is worth noting that the US military announced on Monday that it carried out strikes against targets in Iran for the ninth consecutive night.
