Syria: Cell behind two explosions during Macron visit belongs to ISIS
Syrian authorities arrested a cell affiliated with ISIS responsible for twin bombings during President Macron's visit to Damascus.
Summary: The Ministry of Interior announced that the cell members were arrested through a series of simultaneous raids that simultaneously targeted their scattered locations in Damascus and its countryside, including Al-Qutaifah, Sayyidah Zaynab, Qudsia suburb, and Ush al-Warwar.
The commander of internal security in the Damascus countryside, Brigadier General Ahmed al-Dalati, announced on Friday that preliminary investigations with the cell involved in detonating two explosive devices in Damascus during the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron showed that it belongs to the organization 'ISIS'.
Al-Dalati told official Syrian television: 'The preliminary investigations with the members of the cell involved in the Damascus bombings showed its affiliation with the ISIS organization,' hours after the Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of cell members in Damascus and its countryside.
Yesterday, Thursday, Syrian Interior Minister Anas Khattab announced the arrest of the 'cell' responsible for the two explosions on Tuesday in central Damascus during Macron's visit, without specifying the identity of its members pending completion of investigations.
Two simultaneous explosions with two explosive devices, one inside a garbage container and the second inside a car parked on the side of the road, targeted the vicinity of a luxury hotel where Macron spent the night during his unprecedented visit to Damascus. The two explosions resulted in the death of one person and the injury of 36 others, according to the Ministry of Health.
In a post on the 'X' platform, Khattab wrote: 'The cell responsible for the terrorist explosions that targeted Damascus two days ago is now in our grip.' He added: 'After completing the investigations, we will reveal to the public the identity of the cell members, their roles, and their complete connections.'

In a statement, the Ministry of Interior announced that the cell members were arrested 'through a series of simultaneous raids that at once targeted their scattered locations in Damascus and its countryside, including Al-Qutaifah, Sayyidah Zaynab, Qudsia suburb, and Ush al-Warwar.'
The two explosions occurred after the French president's motorcade had left the hotel on its way to the presidential palace to hold expanded talks with his Syrian counterpart Ahmed al-Sharaa.
The authorities pledged to arrest and hold accountable those involved, and al-Sharaa praised Macron's 'courage' in continuing his visit.
During the visit, Macron reaffirmed his support for the new authorities, considering that these attacks should not 'destabilize' Syria's stability.
