The US military announced Wednesday the launch of a second wave of strikes targeting Iran.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) clarified in a statement: 'At 3:00 PM Eastern Time, US forces launched operations as part of the second wave of strikes today against Iran.'

The statement added: 'The strikes target Iranian military capabilities used to threaten ships that freely navigate through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital international waterway for global trade.'

The US military confirmed that it is holding Iran accountable based on the directives of the Commander-in-Chief.

Earlier Wednesday, the US military had announced that it began a new wave of airstrikes on Iran at 6:00 AM Eastern Time (10:00 AM GMT).

US Central Command said in a statement on platform 'X': 'The strikes aim to continue weakening the military capabilities used by Iranian forces to attack commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.'
