Iran and the United States continued exchanging military strikes overnight, with Tehran saying it targeted 'US military sites' in regional countries in response to the US military's shelling of sites inside the country.
Reports published by Iranian media, including state television, said explosions were heard in the cities of Bandar Abbas, Sirik, and Jask, as well as on Iran's Qeshm Island, after the US military announced a new wave of attacks.
The reports stated that 10 explosions occurred in Sirik and Bandar Abbas, and also reported explosions in Bushehr and Hormozgan provinces.
No details were given about material or human losses from the US attacks.
Iranian media also quoted a statement from the Revolutionary Guard saying its forces carried out 'large-scale attacks' with missiles and drones against 'enemy bases' in the region, in response to the ongoing US attacks.
The statement explained that the Iranian attacks targeted US Army helicopter maintenance and repair centers, a hangar for the 'P8' electronic warfare aircraft, and a drone command and control center at the Sheikh Isa base in Bahrain, in addition to missile depots and fuel facilities at Prince Hassan Air Base in Jordan.
The Iranian attacks also targeted fuel depots and Patriot air defense systems at the US base in Ali Al Salem city in Kuwait, as well as the strategic radar system 'FPS' at Ahmed Al Jaber base in the same country.
In another statement, Iran's Revolutionary Guard announced it had intercepted two ships attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz 'without permission'.
On Sunday, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said it launched a new wave of attacks aimed at 'weakening Iran's ability to attack' commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
In a post on the US company 'X' platform, it added that President Donald Trump ordered these attacks with the aim of 'holding accountable' Iranian forces.
It explained that the US strikes targeted dozens of sites inside Iran, including air defense systems, coastal radar sites, missile and drone facilities, as well as small boats.
It added that the strikes were carried out using warplanes, combat ships, and suicide drones, in addition to the first use of suicide unmanned naval vehicles.
It continued: 'The Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime passage for global trade, and Iran does not control it.'
Washington and Tehran had signed a memorandum of understanding last June that included a ceasefire, following Qatari and Pakistani mediation, paving the way for a final agreement to end the war, before US President Donald Trump announced on July 8 the end of the ceasefire amid renewed escalation.
