Bahrain's Interior Ministry announced on Friday in a statement that sirens were activated across the kingdom.

These developments come amid rising tensions between the United States and Iran, including mutual attacks and threats to navigation in the region.

The ministry issued a brief statement saying: "The siren has been activated. We ask citizens and residents to remain calm, head to the nearest safe place, and follow news on official channels."

The ministry did not clarify the reasons behind the activation of the sirens, but the measure usually follows the country being subjected to missile or drone attacks by Iran, according to previous official statements.

The activation of the sirens comes amid escalating confrontation between the United States and Iran, as Washington has been launching daily attacks on Iran for more than two weeks, while Tehran responds by targeting what it says are "U.S. military facilities and equipment" in Arab countries, especially Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on July 8 the end of the ceasefire stipulated in the memorandum of understanding signed with Iran on June 18, after Tehran targeted three commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

The escalation has disrupted navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and jeopardized air traffic and oil supplies, with intermittent airspace closures and warnings of attacks on U.S. facilities and interests outside the Middle East region.

The activation of sirens in Bahrain comes at a time when the region is witnessing unprecedented escalation between Washington and Tehran, as U.S. airstrikes on Iranian sites continue, and Tehran responds by targeting what it describes as "U.S. interests" in neighboring countries. Bahrain, which hosts the U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet, is a potential target for Iranian attacks. This escalation is disrupting navigation in the vital Strait of Hormuz, threatening global energy supplies. Observers await developments in the situation amid no signs of a near-term de-escalation.
