(CNN)— Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi criticized a regional dialogue announced by the US Central Command (CENTCOM) involving 12 countries in the region, during which participants reaffirmed their joint commitment to ensuring free flow through the Strait of Hormuz.
Araghchi wrote on his X account on Thursday: 'Has CENTCOM brought security or insecurity to our region? The answer is clear.'
He continued: 'Similarly, our mighty armed forces have proven that outsiders are incapable of even protecting themselves. Sustainable peace in our region can only be achieved through a comprehensive and inclusive approach, free from any foreign interference.'
CENTCOM had issued a statement on Wednesday about a security dialogue hosted by the Bahrain Defense Force with the participation of regional defense chiefs from 12 countries.
During the dialogue, Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of US Central Command, and senior military officials from Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen discussed the current regional security environment and opportunities to enhance defense cooperation across the region.
The statement added: 'The leaders affirmed their joint commitment to ensuring the free flow of trade through the Strait of Hormuz.'
Cooper said: 'We continue to stand side by side with our regional partners,' adding that 'the discussions reaffirmed our shared commitment to regional security and stability.'
The CENTCOM statement noted that the United States and its regional partners operate 'the largest and most advanced and active air and missile defense systems in the world across the Middle East.'
The statement added that in January, US Central Command and regional countries established a new air defense coordination cell in the Middle East to exchange information and threat warnings, as well as respond to emergencies.
