CENTCOM: Strait of Hormuz Open, Iran Does Not Control International Waterway
US Central Command denies Iranian control over Strait of Hormuz, reports continued free navigation and transit numbers.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed on Sunday that free transit routes through the Strait of Hormuz remain open, and that Iran does not control this international waterway.
In a statement, CENTCOM said: "Free transit routes through the Strait of Hormuz remain open for all vessels wishing to legally cross the international waterway."
The statement emphasized that "Iran does not control the international waterway used by commercial ships to transport goods and energy globally."
CENTCOM clarified that its forces are "positioned and ready to ensure the continued freedom of navigation, despite Iran's unjustified aggression, harassment, threats, and arbitrary statements," asserting that navigation in the strait continues without interruption.
The statement revealed striking figures, noting that US forces facilitated the passage of more than 800 ships and over 400 million barrels of crude oil over the past two months, while more than 140 ships transited the strait in the last seven days alone.
