CNN: Israeli Occupation State Informs Washington of Intelligence on Iranian Plot to Assassinate Trump
CNN reported, citing two informed sources, that the Israeli occupation state informed the United States of intelligence information indicating that Iran has recently developed a new plan to assassinate US President Donald Trump, a development that comes as the US administration considers its options regarding dealing with Iran.
One of the sources said the Israeli warning reached Washington during the current week, while the other source explained that the United States has received a steady stream of intelligence information in recent weeks regarding possible plans to target Trump, but this time the Israeli warning was distinguished by addressing a specific conspiracy.
The details of this conspiracy were not immediately clear, nor is it known whether US intelligence agencies had independently detected it before receiving the Israeli information.
US officials speculated that the Israeli report is part of an attempt to influence President Trump's decisions, at a time when he is considering the possibility of intensifying US military action against Iran.
The US government has previously warned repeatedly of the possibility that Iran seeks to assassinate Trump, considering it a retaliatory response to the drone strike he ordered in 2020, which resulted in the killing of prominent Iranian military commander Qasem Soleimani.
The report added that Iranian crowds chanted slogans calling for 'Death to Trump' during the funeral ceremony of the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who was killed at the beginning of the war, over the weekend.
Two sources familiar with recent US intelligence information also reported that intelligence agencies are monitoring the movements of parties that discussed the possibility of carrying out attacks, but have not yet taken practical steps to implement them. One of the sources pointed to concerns within US intelligence circles about the possibility of Iran targeting a number of current and former senior US officials.
At the same time, the same source explained that the Israeli report is viewed, in part, as part of a broader Israeli effort to influence Trump's decision on Iran, noting that some US intelligence circles always treat information from Israel with caution.
The report indicated that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed deep skepticism about Trump's diplomatic efforts with Iran, and differences have emerged between the two sides regarding Israeli military operations in Lebanon, which were said to have complicated the negotiation path.
It added that Trump and Netanyahu held a phone call on Thursday, and the Israeli Prime Minister is expected to visit Washington soon for talks with the US President.
