Escalation in Hormuz: US Army Says It Thwarted Iranian Attack
The US Army announced that Iranian Revolutionary Guard forces opened fire, in the past hour, on commercial ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz, in a new escalation targeting navigation in one of the world's most important maritime passages.
CNN reported, citing the US Army, that US aircraft intercepted and successfully shot down an Iranian cruise missile and a drone during the attack, with no reported injuries or damage to the targeted ships.

In this context, Axios quoted a US official as saying that Washington remains committed to reaching a solution with Iran, and that technical talks between the two sides are ongoing to reach an agreement.
The official added that US President Donald Trump considers Iranian attacks on commercial ships 'acts of terrorism,' and that they represent a violation of the memorandum of understanding between the two sides, and constitute an 'unacceptable failure' to comply with it.
