Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on Monday that it had carried out new attacks targeting American military bases and sites in Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan, in the latest round of military escalation with the United States, just hours after Washington declared the end of a new wave of airstrikes against Iranian targets.

Iran's official news agency IRNA quoted the IRGC as saying that the attacks included Prince Hassan Air Base in Jordan, a command center for American drones in Bahrain, along with other air bases, including Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait.

Iranian media also reported that the IRGC announced targeting the Sheikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain during what it described as the 'second phase' of its retaliatory operations, adding that the attack on Prince Hassan Air Base in Jordan, according to its account, ignited fuel tanks and ammunition depots using missiles and drones.

The IRGC affirmed that these attacks come in response to American strikes that targeted military bases and installations on the Iranian coast, indicating that its military operations 'are still ongoing.'

New operation in the Strait of Hormuz

In a related development, the IRGC announced that its naval forces carried out an operation on Sunday night to stop two ships in the Strait of Hormuz, which it said 'violated instructions' and turned off tracking systems, considering that this posed a threat to navigation safety in the strait.

The IRGC did not provide further details on the identity or nationality of the two ships, while no independent confirmations were issued regarding the incident.

Interception of missiles

Concurrently with the Iranian announcement, the Bahraini Ministry of Interior called on citizens and residents to immediately head to the nearest safe place, after sirens sounded for the second time in less than 24 hours.

Bahraini authorities did not immediately announce any casualties or damage from the attacks, while air defenses continue to deal with threats, according to official statements.

For its part, the Kuwaiti army said it is currently confronting 'hostile aerial targets,' explaining that the sounds of explosions were due to interceptions.

The Jordanian army also confirmed intercepting and shooting down four missiles coming from Iranian territory after they entered the country's airspace. A Jordanian military source told Petra news agency that the interceptions did not result in any human casualties or material damage.

Washington: Hormuz is not under Iran's control

The escalation comes hours after the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the end of a new wave of strikes against Iran, which it said targeted dozens of military sites, including air defense systems, coastal radars, and sites for missiles, drones, and military boats.

CENTCOM stressed that the Strait of Hormuz is 'a vital maritime corridor for global trade, and Iran does not control it,' emphasizing that US forces will continue to ensure freedom of navigation and protect commercial ships in the waterway.

This escalation reflects the continuation of the military confrontation between Washington and Tehran, as regional and international diplomatic efforts continue to prevent the crisis from sliding into a wider war, amid UN warnings of the serious repercussions of any return to a comprehensive confrontation in the region.
