(CNN)-- An Iranian military spokesperson said Thursday that Iran will destroy 'all infrastructure throughout the region' if US President Donald Trump carries out his threat to strike Iranian infrastructure.

The spokesperson for the Central Command of the Iranian army, Ebrahim Zolfaqari, said in a statement carried by the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) that if these threats are carried out, the Iranian response 'will not only be proportionate, but will be stronger and more severe.'

He added that the infrastructure in the region 'will be crushed' in a manner that 'will leave no trace of it,' stressing that 'the strikes will be more intense, extensive, and destructive than ever before.'

He also emphasized that Iran will not allow the United States 'under any circumstances' to 'interfere' in the Strait of Hormuz, describing it as 'an Iranian red line that cannot be crossed.'

Trump had warned that the United States would launch strikes targeting bridges and power plants in Iran next week, unless Tehran returns to the negotiating table.
