(CNN)-- A senior Iranian security source warned CNN that Iran would deliver a 'devastating response' if US President Donald Trump follows through on his latest threat to attack 'Mount Pickaxe' (Pickaxe Mountain).
The source said: 'If Trump carries out his threats, we will deliver a devastating response, and American soldiers and his partners in the region will pay the price.'
Trump had warned Monday, in an interview with 'The Hugh Hewitt Show', that 'Mount Pickaxe', known in Persian as 'Kuh-e Kolang', meaning 'Mount Axe', is on the target list, indicating that the US 'will likely target it soon.'
Trump said: 'We don't see any activity there. Their situation regarding their nuclear program is not good. Every time we hear about it, we bomb it, so they don't like to talk about it. But we are likely to strike Mount Pickaxe relatively soon.'
The Iranian source described American claims about nuclear activities at 'Mount Pickaxe' as 'untrue'.
'Mount Pickaxe' is located south of Tehran, near Iran's Natanz uranium enrichment facility, and has been dug deep into the Zagros Mountains, in a highly fortified strategic position.
Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran announced 'closed' over the weekend, the source said Iran 'will not back down from defending the rights of the Iranian people.'
He added that Trump going ahead with strikes against 'Mount Pickaxe' or backing down 'will not make any difference in Iran's implementation of its arrangements regarding the Strait of Hormuz.'
