(CNN)-- Iran's Ministry of Energy called on citizens to rationalize the use of air conditioners to ensure stable electricity supply to the southern regions of the country.

The head of the ministry's public relations department, Hossein Meqimi, told the semi-official Tasnim news agency that power lines were damaged after attacks targeted locations such as the city of Bandar Abbas, causing power outages in the city and surrounding areas.

Despite restoring power to some locations, the ministry urged residents in other parts of Iran to rationalize electricity consumption to help the people in the south of the country.

Meqimi said: 'If each Iranian citizen can turn off the air conditioner for just one hour during peak consumption periods—which are usually between 10 or 11 a.m. and 4 or 5 p.m., especially during the evening hours—we will be able to provide more reliable and stable electricity supplies to the southern regions, where temperatures are extremely high and where infrastructure has also been damaged by enemy attacks.'

It is noteworthy that temperatures in southern Iran have recently risen to exceed 50 degrees Celsius, according to Iranian state media.
