(CNN)-- US President Donald Trump said Friday in a speech to Americans: 'We have the strongest and most powerful military in the world without dispute. I built this power during my first term, and unfortunately, we are forced to use it now.'

He added that the United States 'is achieving great victories with regard to Iran, and you will see the results of this effort very soon.'

That was Trump's only mention of the conflict, at a time when strikes intensified throughout the week following the complete collapse of the ceasefire agreement.

The US military announced Thursday that it launched a new wave of airstrikes for the sixth consecutive night, and sources told CNN that Trump is currently receiving options to expand the scope of US military operations against Iran as he considers next steps.

However, Americans appear skeptical about Trump's strategy, especially with rising fuel prices and living costs domestically; a new poll conducted by The Washington Post and Ipsos and published Thursday found that only 29% of Americans support Trump's handling of the conflict with Iran.
