Iran's official Press TV reported that the Iranian army announced it had launched a drone attack on US targets at Sheikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain and Azraq Air Base in Jordan, early Friday local time.

The Iranian announcement comes amid escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington in the Middle East.

Iran's state broadcaster IRIB released a military video showing, according to the Iranian account, drones en route to Bahrain and Jordan, without specifying the time or location of the footage.

CNN could not independently verify Iran's claims.

For its part, the Bahraini Ministry of Interior announced via platform X (formerly Twitter) that sirens were activated on Friday morning, calling on residents to head to safe locations.

CNN or other independent sources have not yet been able to confirm the validity of these claims. Sheikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain is a major headquarters for the US Fifth Fleet, while Azraq Base in Jordan hosts US forces as part of the international coalition against ISIS. If the attack is confirmed, it would represent a serious escalation in the confrontation between Iran and the United States. This development comes after weeks of exchanges of threats between the two countries over Iran's nuclear program and US military movements in the region.
