The semi-official Iranian Tasnim news agency reported on Friday that two American missiles targeted an area adjacent to the village of Masen on Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz.

Qeshm Island, located in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, is a frequent scene of tensions between the United States and Iran.

The agency reported that the US military launched an attack on Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz, noting that two missiles struck the area near the village of Masen on the island.

The agency did not disclose further details about the attack, and no immediate official statement was issued regarding the incident.

Earlier on Thursday evening, a US missile had struck the coastal area of the town of Suza on Qeshm Island during an attack carried out by the United States on the island.

The US Central Command had earlier on Friday announced that it had carried out the 13th wave of its strikes against Iranian targets.

For about two weeks, the United States has been launching successive waves of strikes on sites inside Iran, while Tehran responds with attacks using missiles and drones on military bases, installations, and sites it says are linked to Washington in countries in the region.

This escalation came despite the fact that Washington and Tehran had signed a memorandum of understanding last June stipulating a ceasefire and the start of negotiations to reach a comprehensive agreement.

However, US President Donald Trump announced on July 8 of this month the end of the ceasefire, following attacks on tankers in the Strait of Hormuz that Washington accused Tehran of being behind, prompting the United States to resume its strikes inside Iran amid escalating Iranian responses in the region.

Washington demands that Tehran stop attacking ships and ensure freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, while Iran insists on subjecting the passage of ships to a mechanism it regulates through the passage overlooking its coasts, exacerbating fears of disruption of oil and gas exports from the region.

These strikes are part of a series of mutual attacks between the two countries since the collapse of the ceasefire in July. US President Donald Trump had announced the end of the truce after accusing Tehran of targeting tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. Washington continues to launch successive waves of strikes on sites inside Iran, while Tehran responds with attacks on US bases in the region. Each side clings to its position on freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, threatening oil and gas exports.
