Iranian News Agency: Four Missiles Fall Near Konarak, US Fighter Jet Flies Over City
The Iranian News Agency reported that four missiles landed in the outskirts of Konarak, coinciding with the appearance of a US military aircraft in its skies, in the latest episode of escalating regional tensions.
The escalation comes as part of the ongoing confrontation between Tehran and Washington over Iran's nuclear program and regional influence.
Iranian television reported hearing explosions in Bandar Abbas in Hormozgan province and in Chabahar in Sistan and Baluchestan province, without providing further details on the causes or extent of damage.
In the same context, the Tasnim news agency, affiliated with Iran's Revolutionary Guard, reported targeting several 'violating' ships in the Strait of Hormuz, amid ongoing reciprocal escalation in the Gulf region.
This came as the US Navy-led Combined Maritime Information Center announced the start of a US naval blockade on all ship movements, regardless of their flags, in addition to imposing a blockade on all Iranian ports and coastal areas, effective from 20:00 GMT on July 14.
US President Donald Trump had announced that the United States would reimpose a naval blockade on Iranian ports in the Strait of Hormuz, following renewed clashes that he described as the fiercest since the ceasefire between the two sides took effect in April.
It is noted that the ceasefire reached in April has collapsed with renewed clashes between the two sides, raising fears of an expansion of tensions in the Gulf region. The Strait of Hormuz is a vital corridor for global crude oil transport, making any naval blockade there have significant economic and security implications.
