Iran's Revolutionary Guard announced on Thursday that it targeted American military bases in Bahrain and Kuwait in retaliation for the recent US strikes on Iran, according to a statement carried by Iranian state television.

The Revolutionary Guard said it targeted 'infrastructure and vital facilities' at the Arifjan and Ali Al Salem bases in Kuwait and the Juffair and Sheikh Isa bases in Bahrain with missiles and drones. It also warned that its responses would expand to include other bases in the region if US attacks are repeated, according to AFP.

In response, the Kuwaiti army again repelled new hostile missile and drone attacks, while Bahrain also reported that its defense systems intercepted Iranian assaults.

Iran's attacks on Gulf states, specifically Kuwait and Bahrain, resumed less than 48 hours after previous strikes on the two countries, indicating ongoing Iranian escalation despite Gulf calls for increased stability and de-escalation.

Threat of retaliation

This came after the Iranian Revolutionary Guard threatened on Wednesday to respond to US strikes, following the US military's announcement that it was carrying out a new round of strikes against Iran.

A military source said, 'The Revolutionary Guard will launch a large-scale attack on US army bases in the region.'

For his part, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said that 'the recent actions taken by the United States will not go unanswered,' according to Iran's Mehr news agency.

He also added that Trump's statements 'are not evidence of strength, but rather an admission of the failure of a policy built for years on power, sanctions, and threats, which ultimately failed to subdue the Iranian people.'

Gharibabadi wrote on X: 'We must speak to Trump... in the language he understands, which seems to be the language of force.'

Memorandum of Understanding ended

Trump had stated on Wednesday that the memorandum of understanding between his country and Tehran 'ended,' and threatened to launch another round of attacks. He said: 'We hit them hard last night, and we are likely to hit them hard again tonight.'

He also threatened to reimpose a naval blockade on Iran, saying: 'We may reimpose the blockade, and there will be no blockade except on Iran; the rest are free to act.'

It is noteworthy that the United States launched strikes on more than 80 targets in Iran on Tuesday in response to Iranian attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

Then Tehran announced today that it attacked American bases in Kuwait and Bahrain in response to Washington's strikes.

The United States also canceled the temporary lifting of sanctions on Iranian oil following the attacks on ships.

The two sides exchange accusations of violating the memorandum of understanding signed on June 17 to end the war that began on February 28 with US-Israeli strikes on Iran.
