Iraqi media reported Wednesday evening that air defenses shot down 5 drones over Erbil province in northern Iraq.

Kurdistan 24 News Agency, based in Erbil, said that "air defense systems were successfully activated to deal with aerial threats, and managed to intercept and down 5 drones before they reached their targets."

It reported that this incident comes just one day after intercepting 6 other drones in Erbil on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, the Iranian opposition party "Kurdistan Freedom Party" announced that one of its camps near Erbil was targeted with two missiles.

On July 17, the Kurdistan Regional Government in northern Iraq strongly condemned in a statement the Iranian attacks on Erbil and Sulaymaniyah provinces, calling on Tehran to immediately stop the attacks.

Iran has been launching attacks on camps of Iranian Kurdish opposition groups in Erbil and Sulaymaniyah, as well as on the US military base and consulate in Erbil.

Since the outbreak of the war between Iran on one side and the United States and Israel on the other, Iran has launched missile and drone attacks on Erbil and Sulaymaniyah.

These attacks have continued even after the signing of the memorandum of understanding stipulating a ceasefire between the United States and Iran.

Last Friday, the Kurdistan Region of northern Iraq announced that the international coalition shot down 8 explosive-laden drones over Erbil province, while 9 members of the "Komala" organization, which opposes the Iranian government, were killed and 3 others seriously injured in a missile attack targeting the organization's camp in Sulaymaniyah province.
