Iraqi judicial authorities announced on Wednesday the recovery and seizure of more than $11 million, along with gold bars and jewelry, in two separate corruption cases.

The Supreme Judicial Council reported in a statement the recovery of 1,143,847,719 Iraqi dinars (approximately $873,000) in a case of financial fraud and illegal transfer of funds abroad.

The council affirmed the continuation of legal proceedings against violating companies that caused damage to public funds, according to the statement.

In a separate corruption case, the presiding judge revealed developments in the investigation of detained suspect Adnan al-Jumaili, the Deputy Oil Minister for Refining Affairs.

The statement indicated that search operations and tracing the proceeds of crime resulted in the seizure of 13 billion Iraqi dinars (approximately $9.9 million), in addition to $400,000, which were hidden in various locations in Salah al-Din province in central Iraq.

Also seized were 40 gold bars, each weighing one kilogram, totaling 40 kilograms, along with other gold jewelry weighing 5 kilograms.

The Supreme Judicial Council affirmed that judicial procedures and investigations are ongoing to track all proceeds of the crime and identify other involved parties.

The announcement of these seizures comes as part of an intensive security and judicial campaign that Iraq has witnessed for weeks to pursue suspicions of financial and administrative corruption in state institutions.

Within this campaign, Iraqi authorities announced the arrest of dozens of suspects in major corruption cases, including lawmakers and officials, after lifting legal immunity from some of them to facilitate investigations.

Part of the ongoing investigations is linked to statements made by al-Jumaili, who was detained on suspicion of wasting public funds and signing contracts that violated the law, following his dismissal from his post on June 2 of last year.
