Islamic Alliance Advisor Major General Abdullah Al-Qahtani said that Iran is trying to use the Strait of Hormuz as a blackmail card.

Al-Qahtani added, in an intervention on Al-Ikhbariya Radio, that the essence of the crisis remains in the nuclear file and militias, and with the complexity of the scene, negotiation opportunities appear limited.

He continued, saying that the Strait of Hormuz has become the main pillar of disagreement, and Iran wants to bargain over it, close it, and affect the entire world; therefore, the issue is complicated by Iran pushing for the strait as a central issue.

The Islamic Alliance Advisor added that the nature of the current conflict does not bode well for a solution through negotiation; because the general framework agreement drafted by the United States and Iran with Pakistani-Qatari mediation did not reach a level that provides security and stability in the Arabian Gulf or even Iran.

Iran's targeting of ships in the Strait of Hormuz resulted in a new military escalation in the region, as US Central Command forces bombed Iranian sites, while Iran justifies its operations by stating that the fifth clause of the 14-point memorandum signed between it and the United States stipulates 'Iran's commitment to make arrangements under which it will use its best efforts to ensure the safe passage of commercial ships without fees for 60 days,' while the United States believes that Iran insists on interpreting that clause as control over the strait.
