Israeli army kills boy, injures others in Qalandia camp in West Bank
The Israeli army killed a Palestinian boy and wounded two others on Sunday in the Qalandia refugee camp near Ramallah in the central West Bank, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
A ministry statement said that Walid Nidal Walid Abu Sneneh (16 years old) was killed while "two other children" were shot by Israeli army fire "in the lower extremities" in the Qalandia camp.
A ministry spokesperson told the Palestinian news agency that the two injured children are 14 years old.
For its part, the media office of the Jerusalem Governorate, based in the town of Al-Ram north of Jerusalem, said that Israeli forces "stormed the Qalandia camp and fired live ammunition and toxic tear gas canisters," leading to the death of Abu Sneneh and the injury of four citizens, who were transferred for treatment.
It added in a statement that the Israeli army arrested three young men during the raid.
Violence in the West Bank, which Israel has occupied since 1967, has escalated since the outbreak of the war in Gaza.
At least 1,086 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli soldiers or settlers since the outbreak of the Gaza war following the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, according to an AFP tally based on Palestinian Authority data.
