The Jordanian government condemned today the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by an Israeli minister, a number of Knesset members, and groups of extremist settlers, under the protection of the Israeli occupation police, and the accompanying assaults on worshippers, and provocative actions by the extremists and police.

The official spokesperson for the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Fuad Al-Majali, considered the stormings a flagrant violation of the historical and legal status quo in the holy Al-Haram Al-Sharif, a desecration of the sanctity of the mosque, a condemned escalation, a barbaric act, and unacceptable provocation.

Ambassador Al-Majali called on the international community to take a firm position that obligates Israel, as the occupying power, to stop its ongoing violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, and all provocative practices of Israeli officials and extremists, which are a continuation of the Israeli government's policy aimed at continuing the dangerous escalation in the occupied West Bank.
