ISTANBUL (AA)

The Israeli army launched three attacks on Thursday on several towns in the Nabatieh and South governorates in southern Lebanon.

The attacks included burning houses, a drone raid, and machine-gun sweeping, according to Lebanon's National News Agency, in a new violation of the ceasefire agreement between the two countries.

These attacks come despite Lebanon and Israel signing a framework agreement under US sponsorship on June 26, 2026, which states the parties' intention to end the conflict between them and address its root causes.

In the Nabatieh district, an Israeli drone struck the Ali al-Taher forest on the outskirts of the town of Nabatieh al-Fawqa on Thursday afternoon.

In the Bint Jbeil district of Nabatieh governorate, the Israeli army fired machine-gun rounds 'from the town of Beit Yahoun towards residential neighborhoods in the town of Baraashit, causing damage to several houses.'

In the Marjeyoun district of Nabatieh, Israeli vehicles and tanks moved towards the Birket al-Hamam area in the town of Khiam, while Israeli military activity continued around the town. Meanwhile, the Israeli army burned several houses in the town of Qantara, with the agency reporting no casualties.

In the South governorate, the Israeli army carried out 'a machine-gun sweeping operation from the town of Bayada towards the town of Buyut al-Sayyad.'

To the east, in Baalbek-Hermel governorate, a 'hostile drone circled in the airspace of Baalbek city at low altitude.'

These developments coincided with a warning on Thursday from the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) that the situation in the south of the country is 'fragile,' despite a decrease in violence since late June, affirming its continued enhancement of operational activities to support stability.

Since March 2, Israel has been waging an aggression on Lebanon against the backdrop of the war with Iran, which has resulted in 4,321 people killed and 12,204 others injured as of July 9, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.

Israel continues to occupy areas in southern Lebanon, some for decades and others since the war between 2023 and 2024, while it advanced more than 10 kilometers into Lebanese territory during the recent aggression.
