Egypt reiterated its 'full support for all legitimate measures taken by Arab states to preserve their security, stability, and sovereignty,' amid ongoing and escalating Iranian attacks on some Gulf states and Jordan.

Cairo stressed in a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday its 'categorical rejection and condemnation of targeting the sovereignty of these sister states, targeting civilians, civilian facilities, and vital infrastructure, and any acts that threaten the security and freedom of international navigation.'

It emphasized the importance of respecting the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of states, refraining from the use or threat of force, and adhering to the principles of good neighborliness and non-interference in internal affairs, contributing to the preservation of regional and international security and peace.

This came a day after President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi affirmed his country's position rejecting any aggression against Arab states, while calling for de-escalation in the region and a return to the negotiating table, during a speech he delivered on Thursday on the occasion of the 74th anniversary of the July 23, 1952 Revolution.

He called on the world's states to 'make every effort to stop wars and conflicts, especially in the Middle East region, and confront destructive tendencies aimed at perpetuating hatred, bloodshed, and destruction.'

The Egyptian positions come amid continued escalation in the region, renewed confrontations between the United States and Iran after the faltering implementation of the 'Memorandum of Understanding' signed between the two parties, and escalating Iranian attacks on Arab Gulf states.

Egypt welcomed, according to the statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday, the statement issued by the Gulf Cooperation Council states and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, which reflected the unity of the Arab position in the face of those attacks.

The Gulf states and Jordan expressed on Thursday the unity of their common position in condemning the attacks by Iran and its proxies on their territories, based on successive positions adopted by the Gulf and Arab Ministerial Councils, international law, and Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026), welcoming the Iraqi government's decision to restrict weapons to the state before the upcoming September 30.

The states affirmed in a joint statement that Iran's attacks on their territories, citizens, and civilian infrastructure have continued unabated since last February 28, and escalated after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between Washington and Tehran on June 17, particularly against Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan, targeting energy facilities, water desalination plants, ports, airports, and other civilian objects.

The statement stressed that these ongoing attacks constitute acts of clear aggression that violate the United Nations Charter, international law, international humanitarian law, Security Council Resolution 2817, and the explicit commitments made by Iran under the Memorandum of Understanding, and pose a threat to international peace and security.

The states affirmed their inherent right to self-defense, individually or collectively, in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, and to take all necessary legal measures to protect their sovereignty, territories, citizens, commercial vessels, and vital infrastructure against these ongoing attacks.
