Iranian state media reported that eight Iranian army soldiers were killed in US airstrikes targeting areas in southern Iran early Wednesday.

It added that the dead belonged to the air force and navy, and that they were killed in strikes targeting the cities of Bandar Abbas and Bushehr.

Meanwhile, a US military official said Wednesday that the recent attacks launched by Iran, which it said targeted Washington's bases in Bahrain and Kuwait, did not result in any US casualties or significant damage to facilities.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told AFP that 'all the missiles and drones launched by Iran were intercepted or failed to cause significant damage.'

US Central Command (CENTCOM) said that more than 20 US Navy warships are patrolling waters across the Middle East region today, as CENTCOM continues operations aimed at enhancing regional security and stability.

The US command explained that US warships and aircraft crossed the Arabian Sea in close formations last month, in a show of US military strength and significant firepower.
