Sunday Dawn: Iranian Parliament Speaker Posts Statement After US Strikes and Response Targeting Gulf States
(CNN)—Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf cited the fifth clause of the Iran-US agreement, hours after Iran targeted both the UAE and Kuwait on Sunday dawn.
Ghalibaf said in a post on his page on platform X (formerly Twitter): 'The era of one-sided deals is over. We told you: either fulfill promises or pay the price. Now reality imposes itself.'
The fifth clause highlighted by Ghalibaf in his post stated: 'After signing this memorandum of understanding, the Islamic Republic of Iran will use its best efforts to arrange for safe passage of commercial vessels, without fees, for only 60 days, from the Persian Gulf to the Sea of Oman and vice versa...'
The US military said it targeted about 140 Iranian military sites in its latest strikes, which were carried out early Sunday local time, followed by announcements from both the UAE and Kuwait that they had dealt with hostile aerial targets.
