The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced that specialized units thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large shipment of sophisticated weapons on the Syrian-Iraqi border, and seized it before it could be brought into Syrian territory.

It explained that the operation came after monitoring a parked vehicle within the border area under suspicious circumstances, where it was subjected to inspection, resulting in the seizure of a weapons shipment that included long-range missiles, guided anti-tank missiles, and drones.

Preliminary investigations, based on evidence and clues gathered during the operation, proved that the shipment was intended to cross through Syrian territory towards Lebanon for the benefit of the terrorist Hezbollah militia, while investigations continue to reveal all the circumstances of the case, identify all those involved, and the networks linked to it.

The Syrian Ministry of Interior affirmed that protecting borders and preserving national sovereignty are non-negotiable priorities, and that it will not allow Syrian territory to be exploited as a corridor or launchpad for arms smuggling or any activities that threaten the security of the Syrian Arab Republic or neighboring countries.
