Report: Israel Ready to Join US in Any New Attack on Iran
Informed Israeli sources revealed that Israel is prepared to participate again in any military operations against Iran if the United States requests its support, following US President Donald Trump's announcement of the end of the ceasefire with Tehran and his escalation of rhetoric toward Iran.
The New York Post quoted a source in Tel Aviv as saying, "Israel has proven its standing alongside the United States, and we are ready to do so again if needed," noting that the decision on Israeli participation will remain tied to what Washington deems appropriate.
This comes after Trump ordered a second wave of airstrikes against Iran on Wednesday.
According to the report, the US strikes targeted about 90 targets inside Iran, compared to about 80 the previous day, including missile and drone launch sites, Revolutionary Guard command centers, air defense systems and radars, as well as logistics infrastructure such as railway lines.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz affirmed that the Israeli military "is ready to strike Iran a third time and with greater force than before if necessary," indicating Tel Aviv's readiness to expand its military operations.
Meanwhile, Nitsana Leitner, founder of the "Israeli Law Center" and close to government circles, said that Israel would not limit itself to political support if the United States requests assistance, but would provide "genuine military cooperation" against Iran.
Despite this readiness, an Israeli source acknowledged that Tel Aviv does not wish to return to the days when Israelis had to take shelter in bomb shelters due to Iranian missile attacks, but added that Israel "will not ignore what is happening in Iran," even if that means bearing the consequences of escalation.
The New York Post report noted that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has not officially commented on the latest US strikes, but has previously affirmed that Israel will continue to target Iran "whenever necessary," considering that Tehran "cannot be trusted."
In contrast, Israeli media quoted Israeli officials as saying that current intelligence assessments indicate that Iran "does not want to drag Israel into confrontation" at this stage, which explains why it did not target Israeli territory during the latest round of strikes.
Reports also said that Netanyahu and Katz held a special security meeting on Wednesday evening to follow developments, while the Israeli military continues to raise its level of alert, update its target bank, and maintain close operational coordination with the US military.
The New York Post added that Israeli officials confirmed they had been skeptical from the outset of Iran's intentions during negotiations with Washington, believing that recent developments proved that Tehran "was maneuvering," and that the Iranian regime's behavior has not changed substantially despite previous talks, in their view.
