Trump threatens new strikes on Iran and affirms continued pressure to prevent it from possessing nuclear weapon
US President Donald Trump threatened the possibility of carrying out new military strikes against Iran, affirming that the United States will not allow Tehran to possess a nuclear weapon, in remarks made at the conclusion of the NATO summit held in Ankara.
Trump said that the Iranian file remains a priority for his administration, indicating that the United States may carry out new military operations against Iran, and affirming that Washington's goal is to prevent Tehran from developing its nuclear program, not to change its regime.
The US president accused Iran of violating the understandings reached with the United States, describing Iranian officials as 'deceptive,' and indicating that his country will continue to combine diplomatic and military tracks in dealing with this file.
He added that US envoy Steve Witkoff, along with Jared Kushner, will continue to follow up on communications related to the Iranian file, affirming that Washington will monitor developments in the situation in the coming period.
Trump noted that the recent US strikes targeted Iranian military capabilities, considering that they did not exhaust all available options, affirming that the United States retains additional options if developments require it.
He said that among the options being considered are targeting Iranian energy facilities and water desalination plants, in addition to the possibility of seizing Khark Island, which is a major center for Iranian oil exports, if circumstances require it.
He also indicated that all options remain on the table to prevent Iran from developing its nuclear program or threatening US interests and its allies in the region.
On the Ukrainian issue, Trump said that Ukrainian strikes inside Russian territory could contribute to ending the war, announcing his intention to hold a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin later.
He added that the United States will grant Ukraine the right to manufacture Patriot missiles to enhance its defensive capabilities, noting that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed to him that air defense systems are a priority for his country.
The US president expressed his belief that the Russian president wants to end the war, affirming that the United States will work to provide security guarantees that prevent renewed Russian attacks on Ukraine, and that it will continue its efforts to support reaching a settlement to the conflict.
