(CNN)-- US President Donald Trump said he has 'instructed the United States to respond with overwhelming military force' if Iran succeeds in assassinating him.

Trump added to the New York Post on Friday: 'I’ve been on their list for a long time. That’s what we’re dealing with.' He continued: 'The only thing is I have instructed that if anything happens, to bomb them literally at levels they have never seen before.'

When asked about Israel sharing intelligence about a new Iranian plot to assassinate him, Trump denied any new plot, saying: 'No, no. Israel didn't provide anything.' He stated that Iran 'has wanted him dead for years' and said: 'I’ve been at the top of Iran’s assassination list for a long time, and that’s just the way it is, you know.'

Trump had said in February 2025 that he had issued instructions in case Iran attempted to assassinate him. During a visit by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, he said: 'I left instructions that if they do that, they will be completely wiped out, nothing will remain.'

It is noteworthy that sources familiar with the matter told CNN that Israel informed the United States this week of intelligence indicating a new and specific Iranian plot to assassinate the US president, a development that may be among the factors that contributed to Washington's decision to resume strikes against Iran.

The sources indicated that the United States had already been tracking ongoing intelligence about potential threats, but the latest Israeli warning included new details about a specific plot.
