UAE announces repelling missile and drone attacks coming from Iran
The UAE Ministry of Defense announced on Sunday that air defense systems are currently dealing with attacks involving missiles and drones coming from Iran, confirming that sounds heard in various parts of the country are the result of interception operations carried out by air defenses.
The Ministry stated that the UAE's air defense systems are intercepting ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones, as part of measures taken to protect the country's airspace and deal with incoming threats.
The Ministry of Defense confirmed that it is closely monitoring the situation, while operations to counter hostile aerial targets continue.
Earlier, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard issued threats to retaliate against the United States and its interests in the region, and also announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz until further notice.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) also announced earlier today the start of a third round of strikes this week against Iranian targets, at 7:15 p.m. Eastern Time, corresponding to 2:15 a.m. Saudi Arabia time.
The Command explained that these strikes came following an attack carried out by Iranian Revolutionary Guard forces on the container ship M/V GFS Galaxy, which flies the flag of Cyprus, while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
