Britain and France announced on Friday their readiness to deploy a multinational military mission to support freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, coinciding with Oman's approval to cooperate with the two countries to ensure safe navigation in its territorial waters.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron said in a joint statement that the Strait of Hormuz represents a 'vital artery for the global economy,' stressing that ensuring the safe passage of ships of all countries through it is a matter of global importance.

The statement added that Oman has agreed to work with the United Kingdom and France to guarantee the safety of its sovereign territorial waters for navigation.

In a move reflecting the growing international interest in the security of the maritime corridor, London and Paris confirmed their readiness to deploy a multinational military mission to support freedom of navigation in the strait, while emphasizing respect for the sovereignty of all states and international law.

The move comes after disruptions to navigation through the Strait of Hormuz during the war between Iran, the United States, and Israel, which caused severe pressure on energy markets and a rise in fuel prices globally.
